Self-Paced CORE Modules: Homepage

Welcome to CORE 2

The self-paced course is split into seven topic areas, or "modules." You can choose to complete whichever modules interest you. Each module is designed to take roughly two to three hours to complete, including assignments.

Course Material

The material is organized as follows:

  • Business Information
  • Consumer Information - Focusing on vehicles (repair and value) and antiques, collectibles & art
  • Genealogy
  • Government Information & Statistics
  • Legal Reference
  • Medical Information
  • Poems, Songs, & Quotes

The print tools used in these units are ones common to most libraries. You should take the time to look for other sources, such as subject encyclopedias and directories, as well as ones not covered in this course, particularly if the topic is one that generates a lot of questions at your location. This is especially true if you work in a larger library, where the collection is likely to go beyond what is covered here.

Assignments

At the end of each module, you will be sent to that module's assignment page. In addition to basic assignments, you will be instructed to take quizzes. Sometimes there will also be links to assignment answers.

Additional Print Material

Sometimes an assignment will include instructions to print out a page or an exercise. Whenever this is the case, links are provided to the printable material.

External Links

Links to useful websites are listed under "External Links," within each module. Sometimes the course material or assignments will refer you to these external links. These reference links will open a new browser window. When you are finished with the externally-linked site, just close its window.
