Assistive Technology: Not Just for the "ADA Patron"
Wheelchairs, white canes, hearing aids-these are all obvious indicators that a library user may need some type of accommodation to be able to use your computer lab. However, there is a much larger population that can benefit from assistive technology as well, including people with repetitive strain injuries, children with learning differences, Boomers/seniors, and individuals with temporary disabilities. This presentation will cover the likely needs of these users and discuss ways to accommodate them without either impinging on the rights of individuals with more extreme disabilities or breaking the budget.
At the end of this presentation, Webinar participants will:
- Understand the range of accommodation needs for users who may not be covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Know what computer accommodation needs these users are likely to have.
- Know what (mostly free or inexpensive) tools are available to meet these needs.
- Know how to set library policies to accommodate these users.
