Business Resources on the Internet
- How much did Sears stock cost in 1987?
- Who is EDGAR and why should I care?
- How much would I save if I were to pay off my mortgage in ten years?
- Is it true that there's no easy way to find financial information on private companies?
Practical techniques for answering these and similar business questions will be the focus of this workshop given by a former business & economics librarian. Since more and more formerly free business resources now require paid membership to access their information, it is especially important for librarians to know how to find and use the good resources that are still out there to answer questions about companies, industries and business statistics.
Workshop Description: In this all-day hands-on workshop, we will identify and work with the best online sites for business research, increasing participants' knowledge of and ability to evaluate business resources on the Net. Using a set of business focused bookmarks for you to use back at your library and plenty of hands-on exercises participants will explore the pros and cons of different sites. Handouts will include a list of criteria for evaluating business web sites and a comparison of the features that distinguish for-fee databases from free web sites.
