Spreadsheets aren't just for budgets anymore. Many librarians have learned to use spreadsheets for budgeting, but they can be useful in many other ways as well. Tracking volunteer time, keeping statistics, Internet class or storytime reservations, periodicals lists, and video subject lists are just some of the useful ways in which Excel can help library staff maintain changing information without learning a full-featured database software
Workshop Description: In
this hands-on InFoPeople workshop, users
will learn to use Microsoft Excel
efficiently to create useful spreadsheets,
simple databases and charts. All examples
will be drawn from real-life library
situations.
Highlights: While working in Microsoft Excel you will learn to:
- Move around multiple spreadsheets
- Learn keyboard shortcuts
- Create and sort simple databases
- Use multiple worksheets in a workbook
- Create charts
- Learn basic functions and formulas
- Format and print spreadsheets
- Embed worksheets in a Word document
- Send spreadsheets as e-mail attachments
Who should attend: Anyone who needs to create spreadsheets or databases using Excel.
Prerequisites: Those attending should be:
- comfortable using a mouse
- able to open a program and save a file
- have experience with highlighting, selecting, cutting and pasting in documents
