Planning and Developing a Library Intranet
Only a click away? Imagine... changing your health plan coverage in only minutes… finding out exactly how much of your budget went to periodical subscriptions in November… locating an expert in your library system to give you advice about choosing durable reading room furniture. Imagine all of this, any time of the workday from your desktop computer or from your home computer. Intranets—internal Web-based systems—are delivering these information solutions and are fast becoming an essential workplace technology. Besides leveraging an organization's information and knowledge with one secure database, intranets are saving workers' time, freeing them up to concentrate on other important tasks
Workshop Description: This all-day workshop provides participants with a guide for planning, developing, and managing a library intranet project. The non-technical workshop identifies the uniqueness of intranets, their value to organizations, different intranet models, ideas for developing content, and guidelines for policies, design, and implementation. This workshop will be a mix of project management basics, case studies, step-by-step planning and usable design guidelines, and hands-on exercises for participants seeking to develop or modify intranet sites in their own library settings.
