Blueprint for a Library Capital Campaign

What are the options for funding Library projects? Which is the best option for your Library? What can a small library do if it lacks staff or capital experience? Library capital efforts must be organized, intensive professional efforts. This session will focus on the key elements for a successful capital campaign, from initial strategy to opening day and everything in between.

Workshop Description: This half-day workshop will introduce you to all the options for funding library capital projects -- public, private, bond measures, loans, and joint ventures -- and will explain how to choose your best funding avenue based on size of library, type of community, staff, and experience. After discussing how to evaluate your options and likelihood of success, the workshop will present a case study on private capital fundraising and help you evaluate whether your library is ready to undertake a major capital campaign. You will also receive a bibliography and list of helpful URLs for further study.

Please Note: With the passage of Prop 14, California libraries can now leverage state funds to launch major capital campaigns. While this workshop is not limited to construction funding and does not address how to apply for Prop.14 funds, any library that needs to develop the 35% local funding match to qualify for Prop. 14 funding will benefit from this course.
