Secrets of the Super Grant Writers

When the going gets tough, the tough write grants. Grants can provide libraries with funding for special projects and programs, new technology applications, or capital projects. Thousands of grant awards are available for innovative and creative libraries. How do you find out about them, and how do you apply successfully for them? In this workshop, the instructors will share their expertise and will coach participants in developing their own winning grant proposals.

Workshop description: This one-day, hands-on workshop covers the full range of the grant process, from needs assessment and identification of potential funding sources through proposal writing and submittal, to planning for evaluation and continuation. Specific reference will be made to library-oriented grant programs. Participants will receive samples of successful grant proposals. This workshop also includes a pre-workshop assignment and post-workshop coaching.

Prerequisites: Those attending should have a specific grant project/proposal in mind. Participants will be required to complete a pre-workshop assignment that consists of reading a short informational piece on goals and objectives, and then drafting a preliminary goal statement and two objectives for their own projects.

After the workshop, participants can send the instructor their grant applications via e-mail, and the instructor will review and make suggestions via e-mail.

Who should attend: Anyone—with or without previous grant writing experience—who is interested in writing a grant proposal on behalf of a California library.

Attendance is limited to 20 people per session to insure individual attention.
