Creating Web Images with Fireworks
Are you ready to add more effective images to your Web pages? Macromedia Fireworks was designed specifically for creating and optimizing images for the Web. This powerful but easy to use software helps you to import, export and create Web images that both look great and download quickly. Fireworks also allows you to preview graphics as they will appear in a browser and provides useful shortcuts for creating buttons, pop-up menus, drag-and-drop rollovers, and other Web effects.
Workshop Description: In this hands-on InFoPeople workshop, you will learn to use Macromedia Fireworks to optimize images for your Web pages. You'll take a tour of the various tools and panels that are available in Fireworks. You will learn to create, format, edit and save images. You will also learn the most effective ways of incorporating images to enhance your Web message. In addition, we will cover the latest resources, tips and tricks for putting great looking images on your Web site.
Highlights: While working in Macromedia Fireworks you will learn to:
- Differentiate between various graphic file formats and when to use them
- Discard colors to reduce your file size
- Compress images so that they download quickly
- Maintain image quality while exporting
- Choose the right combination of color, compression, and quality for your images
- Scan images appropriately for their intended use
- Effectively place an image on a Web page
Who should attend: Any library staff member who needs to put images on a Web page.
Note: Although the course will be taught using Fireworks, many of the principles covered in this class will carry over to other graphics software, such as Photoshop or Paintshop. Fireworks is a Macromedia product that can be purchased in stores or at www.macromedia.com. Macromedia also offers non-profit and educational pricing.
Prerequisites: Those attending should be:
- comfortable using a mouse
- able to open a program and save a file
- best -- but not required -- if you have already created a Web page
