Monique le Conge

Monique A. le Conge has been Director at the Richmond (CA) Public Library since October 2004. Monique was formerly Director of the Benicia (CA) Public Library. Monique earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Design from the University of California, Davis in 1987. She followed with a Masters of Library and Information Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 1988. Since then, Monique has worked as a Library Consultant for libraries in California, as a Librarian for the Solano County (CA) Library, and as a Young Adult Librarian for the Benicia (CA) Public Library before being selected as Library Director in 1998.

Her experience in public libraries, and as a consultant in school and public settings has given her the opportunity to supervise and manage a variety of staff and volunteers. Much of her experience was as a children's and young adult librarian, which honed her skills in managing and training a wide range of temperaments and personalities (the staff, not the patrons!).

Before working in libraries, Monique worked in retail. Jobs in a college bookstore, a yogurt shop, and a sporting goods store all allowed her to observe, learn, and practice supervision and training.

Additionally, she is an Adjunct Instructor for the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose (CA) State University, where she teaches about management and services related to young adults. Her professional activities have included committee assignments with the American Library Association, serving on the Caldecott and Batchelder Medal Committees, and as a YALSA Serving the Underserved Program Trainer; with the California Library Association and the Public Library Association; and as President for the Management Services Section of the California Library Association, BayNet, and the Association of Children's Librarians of Northern California.

Monique le has taught 15 classes from 2003 through 2005.

Sorry, there are no workshops scheduled at this time for this instructor.
