Jeff Mayem
I recently left my position as Chief
Technology Officer of an information
services and software development company
to concentrate full-time on my passion,
which is training. I strongly believe that
the knowledge gap between the creators and
users of technology is getting so large
that a great many imaginative and
practical products and ideas are never
even seen by those who could benefit from
them the most. When the opportunity to be
an instructor for the Infopeople project
arose, I was very excited.
My prior experience includes over 20 years in the computer industry in both large and small organizations, beginning at IBM in 1981 just before the birth of the PC. I left IBM to help launch Monogram Software, publisher of the best selling personal financial management software "Dollars and Sense", and a pioneer in electronic home banking. In 1986 I became an independent consultant specializing in corporate LAN and WAN network design and architecture, which evolved into Internet and intranet applications as those technologies emerged in the 1990's. Before moving back to my native Southern California in 1998, I was the General Manager of one of the largest computer training facilities in the Southeast.
In addition to working with corporate clients, I am an adjunct instructor in computer applications and computer science at College of the Desert, and computer applications instructor at the Palm Springs Virtual University, an LSTA funded distance-learning facility housed at the Palm Springs Library.
I am certified in several networking technologies, as well as many software and hardware products. I have a BA from UCLA in Economics, with an emphasis in International Economics. I enjoy spending my spare time hiking and mountain biking.
