Starting a conversation with a vetera n can be difficult\, however\, if we don&rsquo\;t know who they are. And sometimes veterans don&rsqu o\;t even know who they are. Others don&rsquo\;t t hink they have the right to ask for resources. Oth ers just don&rsquo\;t want to talk about their pas t. But the veteran population in California remain s the largest in the United States. There are an e stimated 19.5 million veterans in the United State s\, and most of us have a connection with a vetera n\, because we are a veteran\, or have a veteran f amily member\, or are friends with a veteran. Orga nizations and resources available to veterans are constantly changing. Especially now\, as many peop le are seeking new employment after the pandemic h as affected job security throughout the country\, it is vital for librarians to understand the veter an community &ndash\; veteran service organization s providing resources and the people who seek them . This webinar will cover aspects of veteran cultu re\, how to tap into some amazing tools to help th em connect with the wider veteran community\, and how to add to our outreach efforts so that our lon g-term mission in public libraries always includes serving those who have served.\n \n At the end of this one-hour webinar\, participants will:\n \n \ n Be able to anticipate questions that veterans a nd their family members might ask\, even if the ve teran or family member isn&rsquo\;t sure what to s ay.\n Have increased knowledge about who veterans are and the resources and organizations available to them.\n Be able to enhance outreach practices to include organizations serving veterans\, as we ll as unique organizations that serve veterans who need immediate support.\n Review ongoing efforts in California to assist the veteran community: Ve terans Connect @ the Library and Brainfuse&rsquo\; s VetNow online resource.\n \n \n This webinar wil l be of interest to: Library staff seeking resourc es for underserved populations\, including the div ersity of people who have served in the military a nd the people who care about them.
