In her eight years as director of the Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney, South Carolina, Lana P. Gardner and her staff worked to establish greater visibility and utilization of the library system in the community. At the 2012 annual conference of the Association for Rural and Small Libraries Lana presented a workshop titled "Strategic Planning on a Shoestring" where she shared the process her library undertook to create their strategic plan. Working closely with a variety of organizations to serve citizens of all ages, she likes to say that she “keeps her ear to the ground” to recognize partnership opportunities and promote the library. Lana’s library career of eighteen years follows her many years of work in accounting, finance, and sales. A past president of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, she recognizes the importance of community involvement and support in sustaining local libraries. In 2015 Lana will be retiring from her current position and plans on spending more time enjoying her family, including her husband, two sons, daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren.
