Rachel Smalter Hall is a web content developer and public librarian at the award-winning Johnson County Library system in northeast Kansas. Prior to her work in Johnson County, she implemented successful social media strategies at Iowa City Public Library and Lawrence Public Library (KS), which was named one of 100 Libraries to Follow on Facebook and Twitter in 2013. Her passion for emerging technologies in librarianship was sparked at the University of Iowa, where she studied with a cohort of MLIS Digital Humanities Fellows and co-founded the B Sides open access journal. Her work has been published in Public Library Quarterly and B Sides, and she has given social media presentations for the Library Technology Conference, Kansas Library Association, State Library of Kansas, Mid America Library Alliance, and NEKLS Technology and Innovation Day, among others. Rachel has also served as a library program coordinator, reference librarian, and teen librarian, and she is a contributing editor for Book Riot, the largest independent editorial book website with over one million visitors per month. After living in Iowa, Minnesota, Vermont, and Rome, Rachel now lives in Lawrence, Kansas, with her family.
