Becky Russell is currently an instructor for the University of Colorado Denver’s Library Certification Program and course instructor for InfoPeople. She was the Colorado School Library (CSL) Leadership Consultant for the Colorado State Library from 2010-2022. In that role, she provided numerous professional development opportunities, guidance and support- statewide and nationally for library communities large and small. From 2023-2024, Becky worked the CSL Youth Services team in helping facilitate learning for Colorado Early Literacy cohorts from rural, suburban, and urban CO library staff and librarians. More recently, she has been a Reference and On-Call Librarian for Denver Public Library. While there, she learned numerous strategies on providing excellent and equitable customer service, how to deal with challenging interactions, and deeper insights on children’s programming. Previously, she taught K-12 students for 24 years in Missouri, Texas, and Colorado. Becky has a Master of Library Science degree, earned National Board Recognition as a librarian, and was recognized as Teacher of the Year for Boulder Valley School District in Colorado and at Carpenter Middle School in Plano, TX. Her background as a first-generation college graduate who grew up in a small town brings a unique perspective to all she guides and serves. Her educational passions include building community with her course learners, helping everyone realize their individual potential through in-depth and timely feedback, and learning with and from one another.
