Barbara Bibel is a reference librarian and consumer health information specialist (Medical Library Association certification) at the Oakland Public Library. She has over 25 years of experience in reference and collection development in the consumer health field. She partners with the local Kaiser Permanente to do joint training as she trains her library staff on consumer health information. She also presents training for the public. She is active in the American Library Association and the Medical Library Association and reviews books for Booklist, Library Journal, American Reference Books Annual, and the Consumer and Patient Health Information Section (CAPHIS) of the Medical Library Association. She received the American Library Association's Isidore Gilbert Mudge Award for outstanding reference service in 2007.
