I am the Community Library Manager for three small libraries in West Contra Costa County: Kensington, where I spend most of my time; Crockett; and Rodeo. I have worked in this position since 2004. Before that I was a reference Librarian at the Pleasant Hill Library in Central Contra Costa. I am active in committee work and enjoy the balance of working on the big picture issues and managing how they play out at the community library level.
My first job in libraries was as a shelver at the Oakland Public Library, in my hometown. The dedication and satisfaction in the Librarians there confirmed my decision to pursue a career in public librarianship.
I am looking forward to attending the Eureka! Leadership Institute to learn skills I can use to take my work to the next level. I am a good problem-solver and team member, but I would like to become more forward-thinking, incorporating more planning for the future of the library into my contributions. I also welcome the opportunity to learn about my peers' experiences and projects and share ideas with them about next steps for California libraries.
I live in Berkeley with my husband, seven-year-old son, and five-year-old daughter. As a working mom, I think the question of work/life balance is an interesting one! Perhaps this will come up in some of our discussions ...
