Mahasin J. Abuwi Aleem is a Senior Community Library Manager with the Contra Costa County public library system. Prior to working for Contra Costa Libraries, she was employed by Oakland Public Library (OPL), and served as OPL's Collection Management Librarian for Children's Services. She has served as a presenter for Library Journal's Equity in Action: Building Diverse Collections course, and is co-founder of Hijabilibrarians.com. She has written book reviews for Kirkus, School Library Journal, and Horn Book's Calling Caldecott Blog and is currently serving on the American Library Association's Coretta Scott King Book Awards Jury. From 2020 - 2022, Mahasin served as co-leader of OPL's Race and Equity Team and participated in the Cultivating Racial Equity Inclusion Initiative (CREI) a California State Library funded program designed to "catalyze a statewide network of libraries and library staff committed to racial equity and full inclusion for racial equity and full inclusion for all". Mahasin has an A.B. in Political Science from Brown University and an MLIS from San Jose State University.
