This webinar will cover the latest updates to help our communities navigate questions around the intersection of immigration and current events. We will discuss immigrant access to services in light of COVID-19 and the new public charge rule, other impacts and options for immigrants given COVID-19 shelter-in-place policies, and Census updates and outreach strategies.

During this one-hour webinar, attendees will:

  • Learn about immigrants’ access to care and safety net programs
  • Gain basic knowledge on what immigration programs are impacted by shelter-in-place closures
  • Learn who is impacted by the new public charge rules
  • Learn about updates to the Census timeline and outreach strategies

This webinar will be of interest to: Library staff at all levels and volunteers, who want to support all library patrons.

About the Presenters:

Erin Quinn is a Senior Staff Attorney based in San Francisco. Her work focuses on building capacity of organizations and practitioners to assist immigrants. She conducts trainings on immigration law throughout the United States and provides legal expertise through the ILRC’s Attorney of the Day program. Erin has contributed to numerous ILRC publications as author or editor including Removal Defense: Defending Immigrants in Immigration Court; Essentials of Asylum. In addition, Erin works on issues related to immigration status and healthcare as well as consumer protection. She has published articles with LexisNexis Emerging Issues and American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).

Krsna Avila is a Special Projects attorney based in San Francisco, and focuses on immigration enforcement issues, including state and local law enforcement’s cooperation with federal immigration agencies in unlawfully deporting immigrants, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals advocacy. While in law school, Krsna worked at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Washington D.C. and the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California where he supported litigation regarding free speech and racial discrimination issues.
