Family Literacy 101: From Flyers to Food
A California Library Literacy Services Webinar
Start Time: Pacific - 10 AM, Mountain - 11 AM, Central - 12 PM, Eastern - 1 PM
Deborah Bernal, Literacy Coordinator, Fresno County Public Library
Pat Jarvis, Literacy Services Coordinator, South San Francisco Public Library
Amy Prevedel, Independent Literacy Contractor
In this webinar, Deborah Bernal, Pat Jarvis and Amy Prevedel will show you examples of family literacy programs that have been big hits with families in their literacy programs at the South San Francisco and Fresno County libraries. In adult education, there's no such thing as stealing - it's called sharing! And you are welcome to turn around and use the publicity, materials and activities they present in your own program, modifying them to best suit the families you serve.
As we look at these three successful family literacy events, we’ll respond to questions that came from YOU, via a CLLS listserv survey. We will rely on your input to discuss the ins and outs of the issues you raised. They fall into these general categories:
- How to create a program: structures, materials and helpful research to draw upon
- Program marketing that communicates effectively and entices families to come
- Time and distance – and the challenges they present in serving families
We would be delighted if you could join us for this webinar, along with all your terrific ideas, opinions, experiences and questions. We look forward to learning with you!
This webinar will be of interest to: the California Library Literacy community, especially literacy program staff people who will offer literacy programming with new CLLS funds.
If you are unable to attend the live event, you can access the archived version the day following the webinar. Check our archive listing at: http://infopeople.org/training/view/webinar/archived
