Nationwide about 40% of children under 5, and closer to 80% of those under 2 are cared for by informal providers, often referred to as family, friend and neighbor (FFN) caregivers. Join us to learn more about a unique library service model, Stay & Play, specifically designed to support these informal childcare providers with information, resources and community connections.

Originally envisioned by the Oakland Public Library, the Stay & Play service model grew out of a statewide pilot project to test the Oakland model for its replicable implementation in different and regionally diverse library systems. This webinar will showcase two of the pilot libraries and pilot library staff presenters will share their experience, learning and emerging best practices. The presenters will also offer their ideas for supporting informal childcare providers even when in-person programming is not feasible.

At the end of this 75-minute webinar, participants will:

  • Have a better understanding of what Family Friend and Neighbor childcare providers might want from libraries.
  • Be familiar with the 5 Components of Stay & Play service model.
  • Be inspired to engage with this unique community resource.

This webinar will be of interest to: Youth Service Librarians, Library Staff, Library Managers, Library Directors, and Community Partners.
