Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Mothers Emotional Health During and After Pregnancy
An Infopeople Hosted Webinar
Start Time: Pacific - 12 Noon, Mountain - 1 PM, Central - 2 PM, Eastern - 3 PM
Presenter: Anna Bauer
This webinar is funded by the California State Library and part of the statewide Mental Health Initiative.
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD) are the most common complication of pregnancy. Every year in California, 1 in 7 women are affected by PMAD during the prenatal or postpartum period. Yet, research shows only 15% of these women receive treatment. One of the most significant barriers to treatment is the stigma associated with mental health disorders. Women of color, immigrants, and women experiencing poverty and domestic violence, and other vulnerable populations are disproportionally affected. All women, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, educational level, sexual orientation, marital status or immigration status, should know the signs and symptoms of maternal depression and anxiety, and to be able to seek and receive informed and culturally competent treatment.
Join us for this one-hour webinar to learn about the different types of disorders, how they may be affecting mothers you are currently working with, and best practices for supporting moms and families.
At the end of this one-hour webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the prevalence of PMAD and list the disorders that comprise PMAD.
- Identify a screening tool for perinatal depression.
- Articulate the impact of PMAD on maternal and infant health.
