Our Ever-Changing Nation: How U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Center Resources can benefit your community
An Infopeople Hosted Webinar
Start Time: Pacific - 12 Noon, Mountain - 1 PM, Central - 2 PM, Eastern - 3 PM
Presenter: Vilaysay “Sai” Chang, Community Relations Officer, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, District 22, Sacramento
The United States has a long history of welcoming immigrants from all parts of the world. During the last decade, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) welcomed more than 7.4 million naturalized citizens into the fabric of our nation.
Join presenter Vilaysay “Sai” Chang, USCIS, to learn important information for new lawful permanent residents. Topics will include settling in the U.S., petitioning for family members, maintaining lawful permanent residency, requirements for citizenship and how to avoid immigration scams. The goal is to reach new lawful permanent residents as soon as they receive their green cards so they have the full 3-5 years to prepare and ensure they qualify to become U.S. citizens versus waiting until after they are eligible to apply.
During this one-hour webinar, attendees will:
- Get an overview of important information for new lawful permanent residents to settle in the United States and prepare to become U.S. citizens.
- Have a clearer understanding of the requirements for citizenship.
- Learn how libraries can help patrons avoid immigration scams.
- Have a clearer understanding of how new citizens can petition for family members.
This webinar will be of interest to: Anyone who wants to help immigrants become U.S. citizens and promote the role of our libraries as a hub for civic engagement.
