Research from various fields demonstrates resounding evidence that Social Emotional Learning (SEL) can have positive short-term and long-term impacts on various aspects of young people’s lives. From improved academic performance and behavior to better lifetime outcomes, SEL can be a critical factor in supporting children and youth.
Utilizing the framework from the Center for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), this course will teach you to assess your own social emotional competencies, promote promising practices to support these critical competencies within your youth programs, and explore lifelong benefits for personal and professional well-being and success.
Investing in the development of your emotional intelligence (EQ) can help you become more fluent in understanding emotions and creating a culture where young people and staff feel valued, respected, and empowered to collaborate.
By the end of the course learners will:
- Understand Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and CASEL’s Social Emotional Learning (SEL) framework
- Assess SEL Competencies to identify strengths and growth opportunities
- Explore how SEL benefits personal and professional success
- Develop an action plan to integrate SEL into their day-to-day practice
- Consider social and emotional learning factors as they develop after-school and out-of-school learning opportunities for youth
