  • Are you seeking to cultivate more meaning, connection and embodiment in your daily life?
  • Would you like to remember to step back and see the big picture when prioritizing workplace matters?

Join a cohort of library workers to identify root causes and signs of burnout and explore ways to redirect and re-energize our Selves. You will discover practices to manage personal stress and develop your own “go to” set that nourish, protect, and enliven. Active learning, empathy and considering the greater good will guide our way forward in this course.

This course will offer perspective, strategies and camaraderie as you navigate challenges in the workplace or seek greater fulfillment.

Course Description: This two-week course will include one 75-minute interactive online session:

  • Thursday, November 4th @ 9:30am Pacific/ 10:30 Mountain/ 11:30 Central/ 12:30 Eastern

Please make every effort to ensure that you are able to attend this meeting before enrolling in the course. If this is not possible, an archived recording will be made available.

In addition to the scheduled session, the instructor will provide a blend of short readings, videos and practices. Using an online forum, you will share insights and ideas with one another with the instructor adding resources and practices to support your journey. By the end, you’ll have your own set of “go to” practices that nourish, protect, and enliven.

Course Outline: When you log in to the Infopeople online learning site, you will see weekly modules with these topics:

  • Week 1: What’s Happening and What Can I Do?
    • Identify root causes and signs of burnout
    • Learn basic practices to awaken the senses and manage personal stress (e.g. straw breath, dynamic movement)
    • Set up a platform for personalized set of “go to” practices that nourish, protect and enliven
    • Start contributing to a list of resources
  • Week 2: Deepening Practices
    • Experiment with deeper practices (e.g. Empathy Circles, Rewilding Yourself)
    • Continue to collect, evaluate, and organize a personalized set of “go to” practices that nourish, protect and enliven; recommend to others in the course.
    • Further build the list of resources

Pre-course Assignment: None.

Time Required: To complete this course, you can expect to spend up to 2.5 hours per week, for a total of five course hours. You can choose the options most relevant to your work and interests. Although you can work on each module at your own pace, at any hour of the day or night, it is recommended that you complete each week's work within that week to stay in sync with other learners.

Who Should Take This Course: Anyone who works in libraries/archives or volunteers (e.g. trustees, Friends of the Library).

After the official end date for the course, the instructor will be available for limited consultation and support for one more week, and the course material will stay up for an additional week after that. These extra weeks give those who have fallen behind time to work independently to complete the course.
